Our Design Process
Each Petit Punnet pattern or illustration is unique, created using both hand and digital techniques and are named or numbered. Our designs usually start life as a line drawing or mixed media painting, inked or painted by hand using acrylic paints, markers, graphic pens and washi paper. The artwork is then digitally scanned and made into a pattern or illustration which is used as a surface design for our range of stationery and home accessories.
For example, our 'Polyhedron' and 'Line' series of geometric designs, are based on original artwork created by our founder and designer, artist S. J. Ince. Her mixed media painting entitled 'Tetrahedron Blue' (painted on canvas using acrylic, ink and washi tape) was photographed and digitally vectorised into a line drawing and made into a series of repeat patterns.
Our 'Graphic' Series includes original hand-drawn illustrations such as ‘Letters’, ‘Fruits' and ‘Circle Line’ designs. Our 'Monochrome' series features both geometric and graphic designs in grayscale.
We use responsibly sourced or recycled paper where possible. Our notebook covers are printed on heavy 270 - 350 gsm acid-free art paper or 100% recycled card, made in the UK, EU or Canada. The internal pages - plain, lined or graph - are fountain pen friendly and use 75 -160 gsm acid-free recycled or all media cartridge paper that you can even paint on!
Our greetings cards are printed on 300 gsm G.F. Smith textured paper and our wrapping paper on 100 - 120 gsm uncoated matt paper.
Our limited edition A6 notebooks are handmade – printed, cut and stapled stitched - at our small studio in Hastings on the UK coast, or in our even smaller Toronto studio in Canada, where Petit Punnet is currently based. Our new perfect-bound notebooks are printed in Montreal, Canada. While our A5 notebooks/exercise books, greeting cards, stickers, wrapping paper and a selection of our fabrics are printed in the UK. And our pencil cases, tote bags and pouches are hand-sewn in Canada. We are always creating and will be launching our new line of stationery and accessories for work, home and play soon!
We at Petit Punnet aim to celebrate pattern, illustration, colour and texture in everyday items and design useful practical products that are fun, decorative and are made and received with joy!
